Using ChatGPT for fantasy football trades
ChatGPT is fine at explaining fantasy football strategy in general. Ask it to grade a specific trade, though, and it runs into the same wall every general chatbot does: it doesn't actually know what anyone is worth, and it won't tell you that — it'll just answer.
What goes wrong when you ask cold
Training cutoff. ChatGPT's core knowledge stops at some point in the past. A rookie who broke out three weeks ago, a starter who just lost his job — none of that exists to the model unless it goes and searches the web for it, and even then, a market trade value isn't something written down in an article to find.
Confident invention. Without a grounded source, it still answers — with a value pattern-matched from similar questions it saw in training, phrased exactly as confidently as a correct answer would be. Tone gives you no way to tell a real number from a plausible-sounding one.
No league memory. It doesn't know your roster, your scoring settings, or whether you're Superflex or 1QB unless you paste all of it in — every single message, in every new conversation.
The fix: give it a tool instead of a guess

Without a connection
Ask "is trading Puka Nacua for Jonathan Taylor plus a 2027 second fair?" cold, and ChatGPT answers from pattern-matching alone. It might land close. It might invent a value gap that isn't real. There's no way to tell which from the answer itself.
