AI fantasy football: what actually works
General chatbots are genuinely useful for thinking through fantasy decisions. They're also confidently wrong about two things by default: what a player is actually worth, and what's on your roster. Here's the honest version of what changes once you connect a real data source, updated Aug 30, 2026.
What AI is actually good at here
Explaining a concept you're fuzzy on — Superflex QB scarcity, why rebuild windows matter, how to read a value chart. Summarizing an article. Thinking through the logic of a roster decision once you've given it the actual numbers. Holding a long conversation about your team without you re-explaining the whole situation every message. All of that is real, and none of it requires anything special connected.
Where it falls apart: values and your league
Ask a general chatbot to grade a trade cold and two things go wrong at once. First, its training data has a cutoff — a rookie who broke out three weeks ago, or a starter who lost his job, may simply not exist to the model yet. Second, and more important: a dynasty trade value isn't a fact that's written down somewhere for it to recall or even search for. So when you ask, it still answers — just with a number pattern-matched from similar-sounding questions in training, delivered in exactly the same confident tone a correct answer would use. You can't tell the difference by how sure it sounds.
On top of that, it has no idea who's on your roster, what your league's scoring is, or whether you're Superflex or 1QB — unless you paste all of it in, every single time, because it doesn't remember your league between conversations either.
The fix: connect a live source
This is what MCP (Model Context Protocol) and the newer Agent Plugins standard are for — they let a chat client call a real tool mid-conversation instead of guessing from memory. Connect one, and "should I trade X for Y" stops being a language-pattern exercise and starts being an actual lookup.
The connector landscape, compared honestly
